GIVING BIRTH

Giving birth is one of the most important events in your life! It is a unique and highly individualised experience. The outcomes of birth can play a major role in the future health and wellbeing of your baby. It also has poignant psychological aspects on the mother’s mental health , her connection and feelings for her baby, the adjustment to her role as a mother and her future childbirth experiences; which ultimately impacts her baby.

A normal birth as we know it, is defined as one without induction of labour, epidural/spinal/general anaesthesia, episiotomy, forceps/vacuum, or caesarian section.
Currently, only approximately 28% of women experience ‘Normal Births’ in middle to high income countries. Rates of medical intervention have steadily increased over the past few decades (contrary to most women's preferences) as it has been solely concentrating on medical safety as well as complications and risks for mother and child.

At the same time, the practice of empowering mothers-to-be and their families have been on the rise among the sectors of midwifery and doulas. But more evidence based knowledge is needed.

Skin to skin, Kangaroo care, preterm birth, maternal microbiome , breastfeeding, father’s support and birth trauma are some of the few after effects of birth that can have a tremendous impact on the health and mental wellbeing of the mother and her baby. The Womb Effect grants a unique glimpse on the latest medical information of birth outcomes and how it can be improved , for you to experience the highest standard and empowered birth care possible.
